AGENAFLO
Lipophilic starch range for oil control, tactile refinement and tailored matt/soft finishes
AGENAFLO is a family of lipophilic, modified starches engineered for topical cosmetics. Variants combine starch backbones (tapioca or corn) with hydrophobic or functional groups to control surface oil, reduce tackiness and deliver sensory refinement across emulsions and powders. The range supports both mattifying and velvety finishes while enabling smooth dispersion in creams, lotions and anhydrous systems.
Key benefits
- Controls surface oil and reduces tackiness to improve skin feel and long-wear sensory in emulsions and powders.
- Absorbs excess moisture and sebum without whitening, supporting deodorants and cosmetic powders.
- Improves glide and imparts a velvety, non-greasy finish in creams, lotions and sunscreens.
- Offers targeted mattification or a slight skin glow depending on the variant and particle treatment.
- Compatible with oil-containing and anhydrous formulations; disperses readily in emulsions when handled per processing guidance.

Technical propeties
From starch particle to finished feel — mechanisms behind AGENAFLO performance
Hydrophobic modification and surface treatment change how starch particles interact with oils, water and skin. In AGENAFLO TS, a hydrophobically modified tapioca starch combined with polymethylsilsesquioxane improves dispersion in emulsions and can leave a slight skin lustre while resisting aqueous heat. This makes it useful where controlled shine or water-repellence aids performance.
AGENAFLO 9050 (modified corn starch) lowers tack and greasiness, absorbing sebum without whitening, which supports a smooth, velvety feel in creams and sunscreens. The octenylsuccinate chemistry in AGENAFLO OS 9051 increases surface activity and mattifying capacity, which benefits decorative powders and dry shampoos. Particle surface area, degree of substitution and the choice of starch backbone determine oil uptake, tactile response and process behavior. Match variant and process (for example avoid aqueous heat >45 °C for some types) to retain functionality.
