A variety of raw materials for starch production
AGRANA stands for high-quality starch products. The raw materials are corn, potatoes and wheat sourced from European agriculture, a significant proportion of which is procured through contract farming. Raw materials from organic farming are becoming increasingly important in our procurement portfolio. AGRANA's team of qualified advisors maintains close contact with farmers and is on hand to offer guidance and practical support. Information and training events are also part of AGRANA's agricultural service.

From sugar beet to sugar
Sugar beet cultivation has a very long tradition in Europe and has developed into a highly specialized sector in recent years.
AGRANA has a contractual partnership with farmers, which governs the cultivation and purchase of the agreed quantity of sugar beet. Good cooperation and a long-term relationship between AGRANA and the beet farmers are essential for achieving optimal yields.

GMO-free thanks to our own seeds
AGRANA, in collaboration with the beet farmers of Österreichische Rübensamenzucht GmbH, ensures the purity of the genetic material through its own beet seed propagation and processing at the Tulln site. AGRANA's sugar production carries the "Produced without genetic engineering" certification mark. Inspection bodies authorized by the Working Group for GMO-Free Food (ARGE Gentechnik-frei) verify that the strict criteria of the Austrian Food Codex for GMO-free agriculture and food processing are consistently met. The quality seal confirms that the long-established Wiener Zucker brand is free from genetic engineering throughout the entire value chain.
Local sugar for Austria
In Austria, sugar is produced from homegrown sugar beet. After the autumn harvest, the beet is transported from the fields to the AGRANA sugar factory in Tulln. There, it is processed into high-quality sugar, either for end consumers under the Wiener Zucker brand or for the food processing industry. Before the beet reaches the factory, however, many steps are required, from cultivation to harvest.

AGRANA’s contract farmers have an information advantage thanks to AGRANA’s RIS.
With AGRANA's own RIS, we offer farmers a dynamic platform for communication, placing orders, tracking delivery quantities and the FSA (Farm Sustainability Assessment) documentation program.
