Wheat-based protein for special feed applications
Wheat gluten is the protein-rich by-product of wheat grain starch extraction. The protein mainly consists of endosperm proteins which stand out due to good digestibility.
Wheat gluten is mainly used as a blending component in animal feed, e.g. in milk replacers for calves, in fish and pet food.
- Appearance: light yellow appearance (cream-coloured powder)
- Aroma, taste: neutral (pure, intrinsic)
In the animal feed industry, wheat gluten is usually only used in special feeds such as in milk substitutes for calves, in aquaculture (fish feed) and in the pet food industry.
In the animal feed industry, wheat gluten is first and foremost a high-protein source for feed specialties- such as milk replacers for young animals and can replace fish meal in formulas for aquaculture. In the pet food industry, besides the protein content, it also provides texture and viscoelasticity in dog and cat food.
