How pregelatinized maize starch replaces synthetic styling polymers
Pregelatinized (hydrolysed) maize starch in MAIZE-STYLE Organic is designed to hydrate and build a cohesive network in aqueous formulations without the need for heat, delivering cold-water thickening and film formation. Hydrolysis reduces molecular weight to tune viscosity and substantivity: lower-molecular fractions improve wettability and film uniformity while higher-fraction fragments contribute network strength and stiffness.
In styling gels this combination yields stiffness and curl retention comparable to PVP-type polymers; in shampoos and conditioners the starch interacts with surfactant micelles and electrolytes to modulate foam, viscosity and deposition. Formulators commonly combine MAIZE-STYLE Organic with AGRANA polymer and maltodextrin systems (for example, AGENANOVA grades) to balance clarity, hold and tactile profile; processing recommendations (order of addition and shearing) materially affect final texture and deposition.
