Proven history

Where experience leads
to innovation.

From the very beginning, exceptional quality and close customer relationships have shaped everything we do. Founded in 1988 as the holding company of Austria's sugar and starch industries, AGRANA has grown from a regional business into a global provider of integrated solutions – from raw materials to tailored applications. What has never changed is our commitment to driving progress and actively shaping the future of our industry.

The beginning of AGRANA

Austria's sugar and starch industries came together under one roof with the formation of AGRANA Beteiligungs-AG. From day one, the company comprised the three sugar factories in Hohenau, Leopoldsdorf and Tulln, together with the potato starch plant in Gmünd and the corn starch plant in Aschach.

Building a third business pillar

With the addition of fruit preparations and fruit juice concentrates, AGRANA established its third business segment in 2003: Fruit. As its market presence and production footprint expanded beyond Europe into North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia, AGRANA evolved into a truly global company. Today, we are the world market leader in fruit preparations and a global leader in apple and berry juice concentrates.

Key milestones

A capital increase provides fresh funding for the company. AGRANA approves the construction of a bioethanol plant, acquires DSF Deutsch-Schweizerische Früchteverarbeitung GmbH, headquartered in Konstanz, Germany, and commissions its fruit preparation facility in Serpukhov, south of Moscow.

Sustainability in full

At our Pischelsdorf site, the bioethanol plant reaches full operating capacity. The site is further expanded with two wheat starch plants in 2013 and 2019. By closely integrating these facilities, 100% of the grain processed is fully utilized. Today, the Pischelsdorf biorefinery stands as a flagship example of complete raw material utilization, putting the principles of a highly circular economy into practice.
